David F. Craig, 70, of McCordsville, passed away peacefully on Monday October 22, 2018. Dave was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. He was the second of three sons from Elza Craig Jr. and Colleen L. Craig (Felix), both deceased. Dave was preceded in death by his brother Donald R. Craig. He and his loving wife Karan had recently celebrated 42 years of marriage together. He was survived by wife Karan, two daughters, Jessica E. Roberts (Craig) and Melissa N. Craig; grandsons, Seth Roberts and Masen Trowbridge; granddaughter Saige Roberts; brother, Richard Craig and many nieces and nephews. Dave was also the “adopted” Dad or Uncle to countless others throughout the years. He had much family and many friends, and was most happy when in their company.
He spent his working years at Rand McNally Printing Company on Indianapolis’ eastside, until an injury placed him into retirement. At that point, he spent most days in the warm months in front of a grill, on the lawnmower or in the garden. He continued this until his health diminished recently. He enjoyed feeding anyone that was hungry, and even those that weren’t. One could always count on a good meal and a many good stories while in his company during the summers. Anyone that has lived in Hancock County very long has probably gotten a tomato at some point from “Crazy Dave” on SR 234. A nickname he loved and embraced.
Dave has been an avid deer hunter since he was a young man. As soon as the weather turned, he would spend his time at the family’s hunting cabin in Pike County, Indiana. Many big deer have met their demise by his hands. This was not just for sport, but to provide. He was a great teacher to many when it comes to hunting. He is responsible for passing on the hunting “gene” to many, including his grandsons Seth and Masen. Dave was proud to be a “Craig” and it was important to him to continue many of the traditions that were passed down to him and his brothers. Deer hunting was at the nucleus of those traditions. He was also a very proud Mason, and was a member of Oakland Masonic Lodge #140 in Lawrence, Indiana.
Dave will be laid to rest on Monday, October 29, 2018. Services will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be 11am – 1pm, with funeral services beginning at 1 pm. Burial will follow immediately at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, 9088 W. 1025 S., Fortville, Indiana. Memorial donations may be sent to VFW Post 261, in Lawrence, Indiana.
Dave had a huge heart and was loved by many. He is leaving a void that will never be filled. He will be sorely missed.

Dave was many things to me, a friend, a father in-law, a hunting buddy (that would track my deer when I couldn’t) but most important of all a father figure who would always give me the best advice he could. I’m going to miss you Crazy Dave!
Love Doug R.
